“We ride to give back, create awareness and raise funds. Most importantly, we ride so that childhood cancer will one day be a thing of the past!”
My journey began in 2015, when I volunteered as RV support, then again in 2016. I met some of the most incredible people, from cyclists to passionate volunteers. This experience changes you. It grounds you and makes you realize that we need to do things for others by giving back, and making a difference in lives. The Coast to Coast foundation is like no other event. You meet 30-40 strangers and 18 days later you are a family and have made bonds that last a life time. What we refer to as our SNKCR family (Sears National Kids Cancer Ride).
More importantly are the children and their families you meet along the way, hearing their harrowing stories, struggles, painful treatments, terrible side effects, then recurrences and the financial ruin for families. But through it all they are positive, and full of hope and appreciation for life. This pulls at your heart strings like nothing else in life!
I will never forget my first year when we visited the IWK Health Center in Halifax. I meet this little boy who had acute lymphoid leukaemia and had been in the hospital a long time. What I remember most was how this was life as he knew it. I see him riding his bike (IV pole attached) around the hospital floor with the biggest smile on his face, like this was normal day. I wept for a long time and my heart ached like nothing I’ve ever experienced. It was then that I realized this was much bigger than me and I had to do something to help. http://www.snkcr.com/SaraLarson
The Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation are committed to raising funds “solely” for children’s cancer charities. 100% of all donations help children with cancer. http://www.snkcr.com/SaraLarson
Facts: Only 3% of all cancer research dollars are directed towards childhood cancers. There are more than 10,000 children in Canada living with cancer and 1,700 new cases every year and it’s the leading cause of non accidental death of children in Canada. No child should suffer with this terrible disease and no parent should ever hear the words “your child has cancer” or to lose their child to cancer.
This inspiring foundation has changed me and gave me the drive and determination to do more. This year, 2017, the 10th anniversary of the Coast to Coast foundation, I will train like nothing else I’ve ever committed to. Come September, I’ll put my cycling shoes on, clip them onto the peddles of my bike and ride for 18 days, 7,000km from Vancouver to Halifax, raising funds and awareness for children with cancer.
Your support is greatly appreciated and needed. I am required to raise $15,000 to be a national rider and ride across the country. So I need help from everyone, that being friends, family and businesses to reach the required $15,000. I ask that you consider donating towards this worthy cause. I need everyone’s help and what better way than a donation to a foundation that give 100% to the cause. http://www.snkcr.com/SaraLarson
Please join me in the biggest journey of my life and follow along as I ride. I promise you won’t regret making that donation. I will be blogging nightly to keep you engaged with each peddle stroke I take across this amazing country.
Let the journey begin!
I just wish people would realize that anything’s possible if you try; dreams are made possible if you try.
